Help Build Accessible Homes That Last

“No one has ever become poor by giving.” — Anne Frank

Rebuilding Margaret Edgson Manor

Our mission remains unwavering:

To provide accessible and affordable housing for the physically disabled. To offer a place of independence, security, and a sense of home where one can age gracefully as possible. Imagine a home where every detail— from automatic door openers to spacious bathrooms with grab bars—anticipate the needs of those navigating life in a wheelchair. These are not mere residences; they are timeless foundations for personal growth, community connections, and quiet resilience. Residents embody this spirit. Travis’ story, and those of countless others, reminds us that stable housing transforms challenges into opportunities for fulfillment.

The fire at Margaret Edgson Manor on June 9, 2025, tested our community profoundly. While we are grateful for the heroic efforts of first responders that ensured no lives were lost, the displacement of residents has underscored the fragility of such essential spaces. As we recover and rebuild, your support becomes a bridge to restoration. Contributions will help restore damaged units, enhance safety features, and sustain our long-term vision of enduring homes that adapt to life’s evolving needs. Volunteering your time—whether it was through meal deliveries,  administrative assistance, or community outreach— weaves you into the fabric of this ongoing narrative, creating lasting bonds and shared purpose.

Why Your Support Matters

Every donation and act of service contributes to a legacy that transcends generations.

Consider:

  • Affordable Stability: Funds help rents remain affordable, allowing residents to focus on living fully rather than financial strain.
  • Accessible Design: Investments in features like adjustable counter heights and wide doorways promote independence, echoing our pioneering 1987 duplexes—the first of their kind north of Edmonton.
  • Community Resilience: In the wake of the fire, partnerships with organizations like the Grande Spirit Foundation and Seniors Outreach have provided immediate aid. Your involvement extends this network of care.
  • Emotional Depth: Beyond bricks and mortar, your generosity affirms dignity. As one resident reflected in a 1987 article, these homes make life “that much easier,” turning daily routines into expressions of empowerment

We are a registered nonprofit, and all donations are tax-deductible. Your gift, no matter the size, honors the perseverance of our founders and residents, ensuring GPRS continues to provide homes that stand the test of time.

Voices from Our Community

Once it’s built, people will say it’s a good thing.” — Ethel Oman, founding member, 1986. These words, spoken during our earliest challenges, resonate today. Residents have shared how GPRS housing has granted them freedom—from returning to hometowns after years away, to pursuing dreams like horse training despite physical limitations. Your partnership amplifies these stories, creating a ripple of hope that endures.
