Margaret Edgson Manor Update November 20th, 2025

Immediate Press Release:
Since the devastating fire at Margaret Edgson Manor in June 2025, the volunteer Board of the Grande Prairie Residential Society has been working hard to navigate the complex process involved when dealing with this type of disaster. Dedicated to obtaining the best possible outcome, through consultation with our insurance representatives, various experts and an experienced construction company, we decided to preserve and rebuild Margaret Edgson Manor.
On October 1, 2025, the process of Selective Demolition began. This encompasses removal of all contents, mold mitigation, stripping the entire building to bare studs, and setting up heat and insulation to protect the foundation from damage over winter. At the time of writing, the damaged roof is being removed to prepare for construction of the new, permanent roof which will be built to updated codes. The fourth floor walls will be reframed with structured support where needed.

On-site lighting, security cameras and fencing have been installed as per Alberta Safety Code standards. As the photos demonstrate, the construction site and the inside of the building are clean and safe for workers. The background process is complex and time consuming; however, we are pleased with the progress made and are confident that the building will be safe and ready for the next phase in the rebuilding process.
The dedicated volunteers of Grande Prairie Residential Society remain committed to the community we serve, and are working hard to rebuild a safe, accessible, affordable housing option. The Board appreciates your patience and will strive to provide updates as we move forward.
